Registration Open for 2023 DPU Fall Citizens Academy
Join City of Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities for the 2023 Fall Citizens Academy.
The DPU Citizens’ Academy is a four-session workshop open to Richmond residents who are interested in learning more about the daily and specialized operations of the Department of Public Utilities. During the two-hour session, citizens gain a working knowledge of DPU’s mission and services through presentations from DPU professionals, tours of our facilities, and demonstrations.
Participants must be a City of Richmond resident or employee who is at least 18 years old.
Sessions are 5 pm - 7 pm on Tuesday, October 3, October 10, October 17 and October 24.
Complete and submit the registration form by Monday, September 25. Space is limited.
Our goal is to provide a better understanding of the Department's operations and philosophies. At the end of the Academy, residents will be able to answer questions like:
Where does my drinking water come from?
How does natural gas get to my home?
Where does waste go when I flush the toilet?
Why is it important to dispose of trash and yard debris properly?
Why are there so many water main breaks in the city?
How can I test my water meter for leaks?
How is the city’s drinking water tested?
What exactly is the CSO and what is the city doing about it?
What are the differences between the city and surrounding localities when it comes to utilities?
The DPU Citizens Academy is held once in the spring and once in the fall. Applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis with first time participants given priority.
