Accessibility Statement

The City of Richmond is dedicated to ensuring that all residents, visitors, and employees, including those with disabilities, have equal access to our services, programs, and information. We are committed to providing electronic communication that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability..

Digital Accessibility

Our website is designed to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) at the AA level, focusing on four key principles: perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust. This ensures our online content is accessible to individuals with auditory, cognitive, neurological, physical, speech, and visual disabilities.

Accessibility Practices

To maintain and improve accessibility, we implement the following practices:
Design: We prioritize understanding our users' needs, employ a mobile-first approach, conduct heuristic evaluations, and utilize a design library that leverages WCAG 2.1 AA components. New prototypes use vetted patterns, and we conduct usability testing with people with disabilities.

Development: Our codebase leverages elements tested for accessibility, adheres to WCAG 2.1 AA standards, and undergoes automated accessibility testing to identify and correct errors.
Content: We use automated accessibility testing when updating content and follow the City's accessibility checklist for manual testing.
