Richmond: Virginia's Connected Capital

Historic Main Street Station's strategic location on the emerging Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor and its close proximity to Amtrak's existing successful Northeast High Speed Rail corridor makes the final phase of redevelopment for Main Street Station a tremendous opportunity for Richmond and the Commonwealth. Leveraging local, state and federal dollars, this final phase of the $72.3 million project will be completed in 2017. 

Passenger Rail Hub

By retrofitting, upgrading and expanding existing platforms, Main Street Station will increase its train traffic from 6 to over 32 trains per day, linking Richmond's downtown to destinations to the north, south, east and west.

Roof Replacement

The corrugated metal roof will be removed, the structure stabilized, and then the roof will be replaced with glass.

Franklin Street Restoration

Franklin Street will be restored for bicycle and pedestrian access through the train shed, giving passage way through Bank and Franklin Street, through the train shed, into the Farmers' Market area. 

Alternative Transportation Hub

Surrounding the station will be alternative transit hub areas such as zip cars, electric vehicle charging stations, and rental and storage areas for bicycles, scooters and segways.

High-End Space Available

The interior of the shed will offer over 80,000 SF of premier, high-end retail and event space with unprecedented visibility from I-95.
