Homeward
Homeward is the planning and coordinating organization for homeless services in the Greater Richmond Region. Founded in 1998 to ensure the Richmond region qualified for public funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Homeward has a proven track record of sharing accurate and verifiable data on best practices to serve our most vulnerable neighbors. For more than two decades, Homeward has studied homelessness by engaging in conversations with people living outdoors or in shelters to better understand programs and solutions for those experiencing homelessness. Relying on this research, Homeward has served as the foundation of our region’s collaborative and coordinated network of homeless service providers, including nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and funders.
Homeless Connection Line
Managed by Homeward, the Homeless Connection Line (HCL) is a crucial community resource for those experiencing homelessness or within a few days of losing their current housing. The HCL offers trained Diversion Specialists who can assist households within 3 days of losing their housing to problem-solve, access community resources, and connect to homeless assistance if needed.

Additionally, residents will receive support navigating existing housing and human services resources. The walk-in center will provide a safe environment for anyone to tell their story to a well-informed human services navigator and receive a warm referral to the system of care in the region that is best equipped to help them with their unique needs, including coordinated homeless services, affordable housing resources, and eviction prevention and diversion programs.
Resource Center Navigators will also host and/or work collaboratively with an adjunct corps of case managers and service providers from the behavioral health, social services, healthcare, employment, and homeless services systems to provide a rotating array of services and training opportunities.
The Community Resource and Training Center is scheduled to open late summer 2024. It will be located at 1900 Chamberlayne Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23222.
