Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Screening and Grit Facilities (CSO project)
Project Summary and Scope
This project is a requirement of the CSO Special Order by Consent between the City and the Virginia State Water Control Board. The project consists of the construction of a new Screening and Grit Removal Facility at the WWTP. The project will also replace the existing influent mechanical climber screens and influent gates and gate operators.

DPU Wastewater CIP - $30,700,000 ($19,375,848 to be reimbursed by Virginia CSO Matching Fund Grant and $9,550,000 planned from Virginia Clean Water Revolving Loan Fund)
Project Status Updates
Construction bids received 10/23/2018. Original Bids received were over project budget and the Bids were cancelled. Project was redesigned and rebid November 2021. Contract has been awarded to Southwood Building Systems and notice to proceed was confirmed in Feb 2021.
Construction ongoing since Feb 2021.

Performance Measures and Benchmarks
Details concerning technical details and schedule are reviewed at weekly construction progress meetings. Structural elements are subject to special inspections during construction. Actual performance of Screening and Grit Removal improvements will be tested and measured when the system is constructed and operational.
