                                        Absentee Voting

All Virginia registered voters may now vote absentee before Election Day without providing an excuse.

  • If you want a ballot mailed to you, you must complete an application. If you want to request that a ballot be sent to you automatically for all elections in the calendar year, make sure to fill in section 3 of the new form. Persons with a valid Virginia DMV issued ID can apply online and paperlessly at www.elections.virginia.gov.   • NEW! The deadline to apply for a ballot through the mail is now 11 days (Friday) before the election.
     
  • Absentee ballots sent through the mail may be returned by mail, delivered by the voter to the Office of the General Registrar, or sent by commercial delivery service.
     
  • For this November election only, ballots may also be returned to the voter’s polling place or delivered to one of three drop boxes located in the first floor lobby of the Office of the General Registrar at 2134 West Laburnum Avenue, in the lobby of City Hall, 900 East Broad Street or the lobby of Southside Social Services Center, Southside Plaza, 4100 Hull Street Road.
     
  • Ballots sent through the mail must be postmarked by Election Day.
     
  • Ballots delivered through a commercial delivery service or by the voter in person must be in the Office of the General Registrar’s main office by 7 PM on Election Day.
     
  • Voted ballots delivered to the polls or a drop box must be delivered by 7 PM on Election Day.
