NOTICE

The Richmond Circuit Court Clerk's Office will be closed Tuesday, November 5th for the Election Day state holiday.

Security Announcement 

By order of the Chief Judge, effective July 1, 2019, all persons who enter Richmond City Courthouses will be subject to weapons screening including all attorneys and court personnel.

 

Jury Duty Scam Advisory

The Supreme Court has approved a plan to resume jury trials in the City of Richmond Circuit Court.

This is to advise you of a new jury scam that has surfaced in Richmond that you should be aware of. The scammers pose themselves as officers of the court or law enforcement and threaten to prosecute citizens for failure to comply with their jury obligations. Appointments required for Marriage Licenses and Oath Ceremonies

An appointment is required in order to obtain a Marriage License or receive an Oath at the City of Richmond Circuit Court.  Please call 804-646-6506 to make an appointment.​

Assumed Names No Longer Filed at Circuit Court

Effective January 1, 2020, assumed names are filed at the State Corporation Commission, not at the Circuit Court.

 

Electronic Filing of Civil Cases

Edward F. Jewett, Clerk of the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond, is pleased to offer the Virginia Judiciary E-Filing System.  VJEFS will be of great benefit both to attorneys filing cases in the court and to the clerk’s office. Developed in coordination with the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia, this system allows attorneys to file many civil cases, and subsequent pleadings, electronically. Please see the E-Filing tab above to learn more about e-filing in this court, and to obtain application materials.

 

Electronic Recording of Deeds 

The Richmond Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is pleased to announce that we have an Electronic Recording system available for deeds. We currently offer two vendors, CSC eRecording and Simplifile.

Online Payments for Court Costs and Restitution 

Edward F. Jewett, Clerk of the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond, is pleased to announce an online payment system for Criminal and Traffic Court Costs and Restitution. The system, called VJOPS (Virginia Judicial Online Payment System), will go live for our Court on September 1, 2018.

 

Credit Cards Now Accepted 

Edward F. Jewett, Clerk of the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond, is pleased to announce that we are now accepting credit cards for the payment of most costs and fees. We accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards. Please note that the cardholder must be present for the card to be used. There is a 2% convenience fee added. WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS FOR EXPUNGEMENT PETITION FEES. In addition to cash, we also accept payment by check and money order for most transactions, payable to Edward F. Jewett, Clerk. We do not accept checks for marriage licenses and homestead deeds.
